Project: Community Mental Health

Focus Area:

Building Resilience within communities

Problem Statement:

Lack of assess to mental health care services

Solution:

Awareness, demystifying and normalizing mental health by conducting awareness sessions with community members as well as set up a rural counselling centre – Manosarthi

Impact:

Reached out to more than two thousand community members to create awareness on the importance of good mental health and promoted health seeking behaviour

Project: Water Filters

Focus Area:

Water Security

Problem Statement:

Lack of availability and access to clean drinking water for the community & livestock

Solution:

Maintenance and repair of primary and secondary sources of drinking water along with installation of 8 community water filters with water ATMs

Impact:

  • Equitable access to clean drinking water to the community especially to women and girls for 600 households
  • Reduced time for accessing drinking water

Project: Farm Ponds

Focus Area:

Sustainable Livelihoods

Problem Statement:

Water availability for agriculture is a major problem in the area which leads to sub-par yields. Additionally, lack of water also does not make a second crop possible

Solution:

Construction of 17 Farm Ponds

Impact:

  • Availability of water to combat the dry spells during the kharif season
  • Income augmentation due to additional
    livelihoods opportunity

Project: Bio-digesters

Focus Area:

Renewable Energy

Problem Statement:

Community’s dependence on firewood as an energy source

Solution:

Installation of 60 biodigester. A biodigester digests organic material and converts the waste into manure & biogas

Impact:

  • Reduces the biotic & abiotic pressure on the forest and gives the slow-growing trees time to regenerate
  • reduces air pollution caused by burning firewood
  • provides organic fertilizers that improves soil/water quality
  • reduces drudgery of the women who collect the firewood
  • improves physical & mental health
  • Saving of ~ INR 10,000+ per household | 600 endemic trees per year

Problem Statement:

Lack of access to water

Solution:

Repair, restoration, and desilting of rivers, percolation tanks & river pools

Impact:

  • Increased water availability through the lean months
  • 25,00,000 litres water storage
  • 14 structures have water throughout the year
  • Community contributes average15% overall of major infrastructure works
  • 23 farm ponds with 1,00,00,000 water storage capacity

Biodiversity Conservation

Problem Statement:

Lack of knowledge and awareness

Solution:

Awareness sessions for school children, Gram Panchayat & VDC
(Village Development Committee) members

Impact:

Awareness and Capacity Building

Project: Forest Fire Management

Focus Area:

Biodiversity Conservation

Problem Statement:

Loss of wildlife habitat, extinction of plants and animals, destruction of nutrient rich topsoil, reduction in forest cover, increased global warming due to forest fires.

Solution:

Awareness building sessions with forest department & community

Impact:

30% reduction in forest fires

Project: People’s Biodiversity Register

Focus Area:

Biodiversity Conservation

Problem Statement:

Loss of traditional wisdom and knowledge on endemic species

Solution:

Community-inclusive data collection, awareness on endemic species
and species conservation

Impact:

With more than 137 species recorded so far, there is increased awareness in community on biodiversity

Project: Sustainable Livelihoods

Focus Area:

Rice cultivation

Problem Statement:

Lack of structured approach to rice cultivation

Solution:

Improved practices of paddy cultivation through System of Rice Intensification

Impact:

  • 402 beneficiaries
  • 36% increase per guntha for rice produced through the SRI technique
  • Net profit increase was 40%

Project: Gender and Social Inclusion

Lack of gender equality

Solution:

Awareness on Gender parity and focused approach to empowerment

Impact:

297 awareness sessions for women with 2,257 community members

Project: Mukta – Menstrual hygiene management initiative

Focus Area:

Problem Statement:

Lack of assess and knowledge of economically and environment friendly menstrual hygiene management products

Solution:

Conduced training and awareness sessions with 120 women, distribution of menstrual cups

Impact:

50% adoption rate
